The global market for LPG has grown steadily over the last decade and is worth about $211.2 billion*

This demand continues to increase due to the efficiency, accessibility and cleanliness of the fuel. Despite the positive global outlook and growth in domestic production, LPG utilization in Nigeria remains low. In the last four decades alone, various initiatives by the Nigerian Government and other non-governmental bodies have not yielded the desired effect in terms of deepening the market and improving domestic utilization.

In this regard, the National LPG Expansion Initiative led by His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was set up to oversee and drive all the disparate efforts undertaken by industry stakeholders for the growth of LPG consumption in Nigeria.

A Presidential Inter-ministerial Committee chaired by His Excellency, the Vice President, with the Honorable Minister of State for Petroleum Resources as the deputy chairman was constituted and saddled with the responsibility of coordinating proposed interventions under the initiative. The committee will provide strategic direction, overall leadership, act as focal point for ultimate resolution of issues and have oversight functions for the implementation of the program tasks and activities.

A Program Management Office - the Domestic LPG Office of the Vice President (DLPGOVP) – has been set up to implement the proposed interventions under this initiative. The office shall be answerable directly to the Vice President and to the Inter-Ministerial Committee.
